What are supervision notes in ABA?
Supervision notes are records documenting the supervision a BCBA provides to an RBT, BCaBA, or trainee — typically the date of supervision, skills reviewed, feedback provided, and any action items.
Ongoing supervision is required for RBTs and for trainees accruing fieldwork hours, and it has to be documented. A note usually captures the date and duration, whether it was individual or group, what was observed or reviewed, and the feedback delivered.
Payers care about supervision too. Many require a supervising BCBA to be involved at a certain level for direct services to be covered, and supervision is often a billable service with its own documentation expectations.
Keeping these records current serves both audiences at once: it supports the certification requirements of the people being supervised and provides the audit trail a payer or accreditor may ask for later.
